ipod nano firmware update features
ipod nano firmware update features
Can I test a “Shift + Restore” on my Nano (description for more details)?
I’m getting an iPod Touch, and we’ve narrowed it down to two places to buy from. Both send the device preloaded with the 3.1 firmware. I need it on 4.0.1 (or 4.0 for that matter; It doesn’t really matter to me…) so I can jailbreak it, and still have the features of iOS 4.
I’ve been told that I can update to 4.0.1 (I’ve already downloaded the actual file) by Shift + Restore-ing it in iTunes. But I’ve read elsewhere, that I need to have SHSH blobs saved in order to do that. (Additional question!: Can I really just Shift + Restore it? Or do I need to jailbreak it in 3.1 first, save the SHSH and so on and so forth…?)
Can I run a test of this using my Nano? I’m not going to actually Restore it to the 4.0.1 firmware, because obviously that won’t work. I just need to make sure it actually lets me choose where to restore it from. Because if I end up on 4.0.2, I’m screwed.
Soo any help would be great, thanks!
Shift + Restore always works. If it comes with 3.1, you’ll be able to restore to 4.0 with no problem. As an additional note, 4.0.1 doesn’t exist for the iPod Touch; that’s for the iPhone. So 4.0 is your best bet. BUT. If you want to be able to downgrade back to 3.1 just in case you don’t like iOS4, then I advise you to jailbreak your iPod on 3.1, then save SHSH blobs in Cydia, and when you know that’s done successfully, then upgrade to iOS 4.
