How can I play MP3 on my Ipod Classic 5th Generation?
I have my iPod and the only thing that has been playing is AAC files. This is the first time I try a MP3 file and the Itunes program seems not to recognize the format. How I am supposed to import it? Is there any thing that I need to set up for MP3? Do I need to convert the MP3 files to AAC? Do Ipods play AAC and MP3 indistinguishably in the same folder? Until now, it was just ripping the music from my own CDs but know I have downloaded the MP3 from Paste Magazine. I read something about MP3 LAME files but I ignore what they are. I am posting too many questions. Hopefully someone can help me. Thanks in advance.
Then something’s wrong with your iTunes because my entire music library is MP3 & I have been using MP3s on my iPod (same like yours) ever since I got one.
iTunes in fact is the software I use to convert files from .aac or .wma, etc into .mp3

iPods don’t work like that. They don’t work from folder to folder as you should note from using it. But in any case iPods easily recognize .aac (as that is an Apple developed format) & .mp3.
I guess if anything you could try converting the files into MP3 using iTunes. Go to Edit, Preferences & then Import Settings. Select MP3. Then select which ones you want to convert right click & select make MP3 version

I think there’s something wrong with your Ipod. My Ipod plays my mp3 files and from what I know, apple designed the Ipod to play .aac and .mp3 files. Why not try to convert your mp3 to aac and see what happens? Ipod should play the .aac files, for sure.
