Have you installed or upgraded any Windows components? If yes then it could be the reason behind the problem which you are facing. The details of the Itunes and the devices which are connected tothe computer using Itunes is saved in system files. If the any component of the Windows is upgraded, Itunes will not detect the devices which were connected before and hence it will ask forauthorization . Try to uninstall the upgrade which you have recently installed and then see if you are getting the same error or not. After removing the upgrade, you will not face the same problem.

Probably the Itunes upgrade which you carried out has corrupted some files of the Itunes due to which the Ipod cannot be synced. All the applications which are installed on the computer, have lot of files which are associated to it. If any of the files which are associated to the application gets corrupt then the application will not work. Uninstall the current version of the Itunes fromthe computer and remove all the files/keys from the computer. Once all the traces of the applications are removed from the computer, reinstall the application and see if the problem persists or not. Before uninstalling Itunes, save the Itunes library.
Like any other Mp3 player, Ipod also works on some operating system. The operating system is called as firmware. Firmware of the Ipod sometimes get stuck and hence the Ipod will not get detected when connected to the computer. You will have to reset the Ipod inorder to get the Ipod out of the loop. To reset the Ipod, press and hold Menu and Center click simultaneously. Do not release the button till Apple logo on the grey screen appears. When the apple logo appears, release the button and letthe Ipod start. Once the Ipod starts, connect it to the computer and check if you still get the same error or not.
As you have updated the version of the Itunes from 8.0 to Itunes 9.0, you will have to activate the Itunes account again on the new version. Whenever any software is updated, all the files which are related to the application are replaced by the new files of the latest version. The file which contains the activation information also gets replaced during the update procedure and hence the account has to be activated again. Open Itunes and then Click on Advanced tab. Now click on Authorize audible account. Now the prompt will ask for Itunes account information. Enter valid information and the account will be authorized.
